Semester. Done.

May 11th, 2005

I know there’s still a lot of time in between my postings, but I’m hoping to get into the flow of blogging.

Last Thursday was my first final. It was more of an exercise. Since the class we redone from the previous offerings, everyone regardless if they got the robot to complete the “final” received an “A” because of the work we did all semster and basically being the guinea pigs for redoing this class. That was nice.

I had my last final this past Tuesday (Solid State Electronics). I got to class early and asked the people that started showing up what they put on their allowed 8.5×11 “cheat sheet”. It was a total consensus that there was way to much to cover from 12 chapters in the book that we all pretty much said we gave up making it. The chapters in the book covered quite a lot. This also meant we all pretty much hit a wall trying to study because there was just so much covered in the past 16 weeks. Forumals and theories up the wazoo. Before the test I asked the teacher for some numbers playing. Going into it I already knew I needed a 75% to keep an “A”. Well I wanted to know more. To keep a “B” (drop 1 letter grade) I’d need a 9%. Yes 9%. If I just skipped the final I’d drop to a high C (78.5%).

Knowing this made me feel even better but once the test was handed out things changed. This was hands down the hardest test I have ever taken in all of my 28 years on Earth. Even my classmates agreed. This teacher curves very nicely so I have no doubts of getting my 9%. At this point I’ll have no problem taking a “B”. When the first classmate finished, right away the person next to me also got up. I asked him if he finished and he straight up said he guessed on over 20 questions (out of 50). Eventually 1 by 1 the others finish (class size is 6 students). I just wanted to get out of there, test started at 10:15am and here it was just past 1:15pm. The last person left around 1:10 so I just started guessing. I was lost and I knew I wasn’t alone. I left alast, just after 1:15pm.

I’m waiting for the grades to be available but I don’t think there is any way I could NOT get a lousy 9% even without a curve.
